The CardioFIT program is intended for the client who has encountered a heart or blood vessel event such as a heart attack or angina, and who has been recommended to exercise as part of their rehabilitation by their cardiologist. This program must have a referral from your Cardiologist prior to initiating the program. This program ensures that you have a health care and exercise professional at your side as you learn to exercise safely for your heart. For example: Did you know that it is not safe to begin any aggressive activity or exercise with motions that use primarily the arms (ex. Shoveling), as the blood vessels in the remainder of your body do not have adequate ability to dilate to accommodate the increased blood flow being pumping by the hard working heart? In this scenario, the heart is pumping hard based on the effort being put out, but because the vessels in the lower body are not dilating quickly enough, extra strain is placed on the heart and vessels causing an increased risk for stroke or heart attack. Ideally, the largest muscle groups such as those in the legs, have to be involved in the warm up because they are more efficient and effective at dilating the blood vessels throughout the body. Tips like this are so important to ensure you protect your heart and strengthen your heart properly as you recover from cardiac injury. CardioFit will give you right the tools for optimal recovery.
